Creating and restoring a server backup Print

  • 6

It is recommended that you do backups of your server regularly in case of data loss or griefing caused by players. We do not guarantee backups, it is your responsibility to have your own backups.

Please Note: The Multicraft backup only backs up the main world along with the nether and end on your server e.g. 'world', 'world_nether' and 'world_the_end' if your world is called 'world', it does not backup any additional worlds or plugins. If you would like to backup other files, please manually download your worlds via a FTP Client such as FileZilla or CyberDuck, a tutorial is available here.

1. Login to our Multicraft Control Panel (cp.spartanhost.net)

2. Click on "Files > Backup" on the left bar.

3. Click on the "Start" button to start the backup.

4. Upon completion it will be saved to your FTP automatically.

It is always recommended to keep a copy of the backup file of your world on your computer on a regular basi therefore you can use an FTP client such as FileZilla or CyberDuck, to download the file to your computer. You may delete a backup file every so often from your FTP if you have backups from an earlier date.

To restore your backup file, simply do the following:

Preparation to selecting 'Restore':

You need to prepare your files for the restore first. You will either want to move all main world folders (world, world_nether and world_the_end, or equivalent names) in your server to an empty directory (i.e. make a new folder called "old_worlds), delete those folders completely or rename them from e.g. 'world' to 'world_old' as they are no longer needed. The restore will not overwrite any existing files, which is not ideal as it may not restore properly as a result of the backup.

After preparation:

1. Login to the Multicraft control panel then select your server and click on "Files > Backup" on the left bar.

2. Click on the "Restore" button on the left bar.

3. Select the backup file you want to restore.

Note: Since the backup does not backup plugins and various other files including additional worlds, it is highly recommended that you manually backup certain server files by downloading them to your computer via FTP. You can also skip the Multicraft backup feature completely and simply use a backup plugin that specializes in Backing Up your server, which can be found at dev.bukkit.org. If you are using Vanilla or another mod that does not support Bukkit, it is highly recommended to download your server files to your computer every so often.

If you have any difficulties in creating backups for your server, don't hesitate to contact us via Live Chat or Support ticket.
